For UK subscription boxes and other consumer subscriptions that auto-renew (not SaaS, B2B, or FCA, Ofcom or Ofgem sectors)

Renewal and cancellation texts for the new UK subscription rules. Nothing to pay until you approve them.

If you don’t approve it after two rounds of changes, you owe nothing and the copy can’t be used.

Send me your product and account pages. I write the renewal, reminder and cancellation texts in the pack from them, and name the field in your subscription app where each one goes. Your developer or VA pastes them in.

A charge the customer didn’t expect tends to come back as a complaint, a bank dispute or a cancellation. The CMA can already enforce consumer law directly and fine businesses that break it. Separately, the government says new subscription rules come into force in January 2027.

The January Renewal Notice Pack: 12 to 15 paste-ready texts, 5 UK working days after I confirm your brief is complete. GBP 495, invoiced when you approve the pack.

Say what happens next. A hand touches a phone beside a subscription box. The fictional message shows Your next box, 14 January, £24 and Manage subscription.

Before: “Your next box is on its way soon!” No date, no amount, no way out.

After: “Your Hearth & Hops box renews on Thursday 14 January”

01 · What comes off your plate

You send your pages. You get back texts ready to paste.

  • The writing. Each text is written from your own prices, dates and plans, not from your app’s default template.
  • Working out what each message is for. Every text comes with its row of the Map: where it goes and the section of the Act it relates to, for your solicitor to confirm.
  • Finding the right field. The App Paste Sheet names it, so your developer or VA can paste without asking you.
  • Briefing your solicitor. They get finished wording and an empty column for their notes, not a blank page.
  • Support answers. Three replies your team can send as they are.
  • Calls. Everything happens by email, with no calls.

Where my work ends. I write the texts and show where each one goes. Your team or app partner makes the flow work. Your solicitor has the final say on the law.

Every fact in your version comes from your own product and account pages. Where a fact is missing, I stop and ask. It never gets guessed.

“What I appreciated most was his rigor. If something in the source material was ambiguous, he flagged it rather than guessing.”
Joe Gowdridge, Pretzl
No plot twists. Just a clear reminder. Date. Amount. What happens next. A theatre curtain reveals a next-charge date and amount.

03 · Common complaints

Where renewal wording is unclear, these are the complaints it tends to cause

Typical examples:

Typical complaint
No email before the charge. They found out from their bank statement.
What the pack changes
A reminder that says what is coming, how much, when, and how to stop it.
Typical complaint
They had to phone to cancel, or couldn’t find the option.
What the pack changes
Cancel-page text written for one clear online step, and the confirmation email.
Typical complaint
A cheap first box turned into a full-price subscription.
What the pack changes
A plain line at checkout, and a reminder before the trial price ends.

04 · The date

What the CMA can do now, and what starts in 2027

Now. The CMA can already enforce consumer law directly and fine businesses that break it. The reminders you send today are read by customers today.

January 2027. On 9 August 2026 the government said the new subscription rules will come into force in January 2027. Businesses will have to give clearer information, send regular reminders and make leaving easier. A new 14-day cooling-off period will let customers cancel after a trial or a long-term contract renews.

The detailed regulations and CMA guidance have not been published yet. The rules set what a notice must do, not the words, so every business writes its own. That is why the pack includes one update when they are published (details under The pack).

05 · Your subscription app

The app sends the message. The words are yours.

Your app decides when a reminder or cancel email goes out. What it says is still up to you.

The App Paste Sheet gives your developer, VA or app partner the field, the details your app fills in, and the length allowed.

06 · The January Renewal Notice Pack

12 to 15 texts, by name

One brand, one subscription programme, up to three plans. If you have more, I tell you in writing before we start whether it counts as two packs.

Reminders: 01 regular renewal reminder · 02 reminder before a trial or introductory price ends · 03 annual renewal reminder, if you sell annual plans

Signing up: 04 key information block for your product page and checkout · 05 acceptance line · 06 the subscription part of your confirmation email

Cooling-off: 07 initial cooling-off notice · 08 renewal cooling-off notice

Leaving: 09 cancel-online page text · 10 cancellation confirmation email · 11 “Manage my subscription” help text

Support and terms: 12 three support replies (“I didn’t get a reminder”, “How do I cancel?”, “I was charged after my trial”) · 13 a plain-English summary box for your existing terms. Your solicitor edits the terms themselves; I don’t.

Also included

  • The Map. Every text, where it goes, the section of the Act it relates to (for your solicitor to confirm), and a blank column for your solicitor.
  • The App Paste Sheet. The field for each text in Recharge, Skio, Loop, Appstle, Klaviyo or Shopify.
  • Your message plan. Which message goes with which plan and which moment (sign-up, trial end, renewal, cancellation), so nothing is written for a plan you don’t sell.
  • Your solicitor’s notes and one update. For 60 days after you approve, I make the changes your solicitor asks for at no extra cost. When the detailed subscription regulations are published, I update the pack once, included in the price. If they are not published within 6 months of your approval, that update commitment ends.

07 · How I work

Checked against your own pages, and labelled at every step

Every document carries one of three labels: Draft (the first version, with open questions marked), Facts confirmed (every “to confirm” answered) and Approved (the final version you approved). A line marked “to confirm” reaches you as a question before it reaches your app.

01Draft02Facts confirmed03Approved

I use AI for research and first drafts. I check and edit every line myself. How I use AI

This pack is new, so there are no subscription results to show yet. The fairest test is your own reminder, rewritten free, before you commit to anything.

Editors at agencies I have written for. They are not subscription brands. They speak to how I handle facts and scope.

“Marcell made the copy easier to follow while keeping the relevant qualifications, and queried an ambiguous claim rather than filling in the gap himself.”
Phil Gibson, Head of Content Development, Napier
“He understood the positioning, stayed within the scope, and delivered exactly when he promised.”
Barnaby Ellis, Director, Strategy & Experience, Fifty Five and Five

08 · How it works

Four steps, all by email

  1. The start form. Your name, email, website, the name of the subscription app you use, a link to your subscription page, and who approves. I reply within 1 UK working day with your start date and up to 6 questions about your plans, prices and cancel route.
  2. Brief confirmed. The clock starts when I confirm in writing that your brief is complete. Until then, a start date is only a booking.
  3. 5 UK working days later: the pack, labelled Draft, in one shared document.
  4. Changes, then your decision. Every first job includes two rounds of written changes. Every later job includes one. When you approve, the invoice comes.

09 · Price

One pack, one price, paid after you approve it

The January Renewal Notice Pack

GBP 495

Buys all 12 to 15 texts listed under The pack, the Map, the App Paste Sheet, two rounds of written changes, 60 days of your solicitor’s changes and one update when the regulations are published.

Nothing to pay today. Invoiced when you approve it.

Start my Notice Pack

GBP 495 for packs that start before 1 December 2026, GBP 595 from 1 December 2026. A pack starts when I confirm its brief is complete. Orders by Friday 11 December start before Christmas. The next start after that is Monday 4 January.

10 · How paying works

Short version

On a first job, the invoice comes when you approve and is due in 7 days. With a purchase order, it can be up to 30 days. Invoices are in GBP, by card or bank transfer.

You approve the Pack before you pay for it. Save Flow is a separate job after that. Save Flow is the pause, skip and swap wording beside your cancel button, never in front of it. If you want it, I offer it by email once your pack is approved, with its own invoice.

This is customer-facing copy, not legal advice. I answer for every line I write. What counts as approving, when you can use the copy and the rest of the detail: Terms and Refunds.

11 · Questions

Questions before you start

Not here? Email me I reply within 1 UK working day.

Should we wait for the final rules?

You can, but three things don’t wait. The reminders you send now reach customers now, and the CMA can already enforce consumer law directly. GBP 495 for packs that start before 1 December 2026, GBP 595 from 1 December 2026. And the pack includes one update when the regulations are published, if that happens within 6 months of your approval.

Who can pay after approval?

Paying after you approve is open to any organisation with a live website and an email address on its own domain, once per organisation. You don’t need to be a limited company. Sole traders are welcome when they get in touch with me first.

What do you need from us?

The start form, a link to your subscription page and account pages, and answers to up to 6 questions. If a fact is missing, I ask rather than guess.

Which apps does it work with?

The App Paste Sheet covers Recharge, Skio, Loop, Appstle, Klaviyo and Shopify. If you use another app, name it on the start form.

Will you set it up in our app?

No. I write the texts and show where each one goes. Your team or app partner makes the flow work.

Is this legal advice? Can you guarantee we won’t be fined?

No to both. Every text is mapped to the section of the Act it relates to, for your solicitor to confirm in a blank column. They keep the final say.

Will customers leave if cancelling is easy?

Some will. The government’s response says offers during leaving are allowed as long as they don’t frustrate or unreasonably lengthen it (source). The pack’s wording is written for one clear online step; your app sets how many steps there are.

What about existing subscribers?

The transitional rules aren’t published yet. Your solicitor marks how they apply in the Map.

We have more than three plans. Is that one pack?

One pack covers one brand, one subscription programme and up to three plans. If you have more, I tell you in writing before we start whether it counts as two packs.
