The Writing Desk · For clients whose first job with me is done

Your next four jobs, without a new quote, a new invoice or a chase for each one.

You have already approved my work once. The Desk lets you keep going without starting the paperwork again every time: four pages or four pieces in each 4-week cycle, at a price agreed once, briefed whenever you are ready. Same writer, same standard, and your voice already on file.

The Desk opens only after your first job is approved and paid. I reply within 1 UK working day. Everything happens by email, with no calls.

New here? Start with a single client page for your studio or the first piece from your job ad.

Buying one job at a time works. It also means admin every time.

Each single job needs a quote, a date, an invoice and someone on your side keeping it moving. On the Desk you no longer:

  • ask me for a price or a date before you can answer your own client or manager
  • raise a new invoice or purchase order for every page or piece
  • explain your voice again
  • wait for one piece to land before you brief the next

What you get instead:

  • A date you can give straight away. Each page or piece comes within 5 UK working days of its confirmed brief, so you can tell your client or manager when to expect it without asking me first.
  • A cost you know before you quote. For a studio, the cycle price is fixed, so you know what each page costs you before you price it for your client.
  • Your voice on file. Studios keep voice notes for each of their clients. Cover the Seat teams keep the voice guide from their first piece, updated as we go.

The writing stays as you know it from your first job. Each page or piece is written from your own material, with a Source column showing where every claim comes from. Where I can't check a fact, I mark it "to confirm" and ask. It never gets guessed.

If you don't take the Desk, nothing is lost: the notes from your approved job stay on file for your next single job too.

The calendar, in nine rules

Start and length

Each cycle starts on the first UK working day after your payment arrives, not on the invoice date.

A cycle is 4 weeks: 20 UK working days. If a bank holiday falls inside it, the cycle runs one working day longer for each.

Briefs and delivery

You can send all four briefs at the start of the cycle, and I work on the pieces side by side.

The clock starts when I confirm in writing that your brief is complete. Until then, a start date is only a booking.

One unused piece can carry over to the next cycle, once.

The next cycle

The invoice for the next cycle is sent 7 days before the last working day of the cycle that is running.

To cancel, tell me at least 7 days before your next cycle starts. The cycle that is running goes on to its end.

Longer plans, Studio Desk only

A quarter is 3 cycles, or 84 days. That is 60 UK working days. All three cycles are paid at the start, so they run back to back with no invoice between them, and like any cycle they run a day longer for each bank holiday.

Paying for a quarter fixes your place and your price for it. It is not a discount.

A full year is 13 cycles for the price of 11.

Cycle ends. Piece 4 was never briefed, so it carries over to the next cycle, once.

If you had sent all four briefs on 15 October, all four would have been in progress side by side from that day.

The same dates in full: Invoice sent Monday 5 October 2026. Payment arrives Wednesday 14 October. The cycle starts Thursday 15 October and its 20th UK working day is Wednesday 11 November. The invoice for the next cycle is sent Wednesday 4 November. The next cycle can start Thursday 12 November, the first working day after the next payment arrives; to cancel, tell me by Thursday 5 November. A cycle starting Monday 14 December 2026 ends on Wednesday 13 January 2027 instead of Friday 8 January, because of the bank holidays on 25 December, 28 December and 1 January.

If a payment arrives after your cycle ends, the next cycle simply starts later. None of its 20 working days are used while you wait.

What a request looks like

That is the whole email. Northgate's voice notes are already on file, so nothing is explained again.

Every document carries one of three labels: Draft (the first version, with open questions marked), Facts confirmed (every "to confirm" answered) and Approved (the final version you approved).

Studio Desk

For web and design studios whose first page (or page one of a site) is approved and paid.

Each cycle buys:

  • 4 pages, each up to 10 sections or about 1,000 words
  • each page within 5 UK working days of its brief
  • one round of written changes on each page
  • each client's voice notes kept on file
  • white-label: your client sees your studio's name, not mine, and I never contact your client

Swapping a page for emails: One page per cycle can be swapped for up to 3 emails of up to 250 words each, for one campaign, from material already supplied.

Against single pages: a single Copy-Ready Page on its own is USD 350 {GBP 270 | EUR 315}. Four pages in one cycle cost about 14% less than four single pages at the dollar and pound prices. The quarter costs the same as three single cycles; it suits a studio that would rather make one payment than three. The full year costs less again.

Price changes: After 12 months, the price can rise by at most 10%, and I tell you in writing 30 days before.

Cover the Seat block

For teams whose first piece is approved and paid, while the new hire is still on the way.

Each cycle buys:

  • 4 pieces from your job ad, each within 5 UK working days of its brief
  • one round of changes on each piece
  • your voice guide kept current
  • when your hire's start date is set and at least one full cycle is paid, that cycle includes a handover pack, so your new hire starts with the voice guide and the work so far in one place

Price: GBP 1,500 {USD 1,950 | EUR 1,750} a cycle for 4 pieces. The block runs one cycle at a time. There is no quarter or yearly plan.

How it is paid: in advance by invoice, due in 7 days, or up to 30 days with a purchase order. The cycle starts on the first UK working day after payment arrives, so a longer payment term never uses up your weeks.

If your first piece was recent: If you book the block within 14 days of approving your first piece, that piece becomes piece one of the block, so you never pay for it twice. Block total GBP 1,500 {USD 1,950 | EUR 1,750} for 4 pieces, which includes the first piece you already paid. You pay the rest, GBP 1,050 {USD 1,355 | EUR 1,225}, for the other three. In that case the block starts on the first UK working day after both the first piece and the block balance are paid.

Short version: you pay before each cycle, and you can stop at any time with notice

  • Desk work is paid in advance. Your invoice is in the currency you name in your email. Prices are fixed in USD, GBP and EUR.
  • Every first job includes two rounds of written changes. Every later job includes one. Desk work is later work, so each page or piece has one.
  • Approving means writing "approved" about a named version, or using any of the copy: publishing it, sending it or printing it. Forwarding it for comment never counts, and neither does silence.
  • Work paid in advance and not yet started is refunded in full. Once work has started, you get one rewrite within the agreed scope.
  • Once you approve, you can publish the copy. Copyright passes to you when the invoice is paid in full.

How your first cycle begins

  1. Email me. Name your plan, your approved first job, and for the Studio Desk whether you want one cycle, a quarter or a full year. Send your first briefs if you have them.
  2. I reply within 1 UK working day with the payment link or invoice.
  3. Your cycle starts on the first UK working day after your payment arrives. I confirm the start date and the end date in writing.

What to send with each brief:

  • the link or file the page or piece is for
  • who it is for and what it needs to do
  • anything that has changed since your approved job: prices, names, new pages
  • the date you need it by

Questions

My first job is approved but not paid yet. Can I book?

You can email me now, and the Desk opens as soon as that invoice is paid.

What if my finance team pays in 30 days?

Your cycle starts when the money arrives, not when the invoice is raised, so none of your 20 working days are used while you wait.

What counts as one page?

Up to 10 sections or about 1,000 words. A longer page counts as two, and I say so in writing before I start.

What can the 3 emails be?

Up to 3 emails of up to 250 words each, for one campaign, from material you have already supplied. They take the place of one page in that cycle.

Is there a minimum term?

No minimum beyond what you have paid for. How to stop is in the calendar rules.

Is the work white-label?

Yes, for studios. Your client sees your studio's name, not mine, and I never contact your client.

What happens to my work if I stop?

Once you approve, you can publish the copy. Copyright passes to you when the invoice is paid in full. Desk work is paid before it starts, so nothing you have paid for is held back when you leave.

Your next four jobs can start as soon as your payment arrives.
